It hasn't been very long since my last entry but I am going to try to keep as up to date as I can. Since my last entry I have done three appearances, all of which were excellent!
On October 12, 2007 I traveled to the Marine Institute in St. John's for the Ocean Net Youth and the Oceans Conference. Fighting Global Meltdown was this year's topic and was it even interesting! I learned a whole lot from this conference about Global Warming and the effects a lot of stuff has on the earth. We were treated to very cool fire juggling demonstration, guest speakers, slideshows and a youth forum with a question and answer period. We heard speeches from Beni Malone (who gave us the jugging demonstration), Terry Harvey (of the Canadian Coast Guard), Dr. Bill Montevecchi (a professor from Marine Institute), Bruce Peters (owner of the Tourist Hospitality B & B), and Justin Deering (the Provincial Director of the NL

Environmental Action Team). I was also invited to speak to the youth attending the conference and it was truly exhilarating! Not only did I learn a lot from the speakers but I learned a lot from the youth just by speaking with them throughout the conference. It was a very good learning experience for me! Close to the end of the conference there were many awards given out. I just want to congratulate some of the award winners here: The Youth Environmental Stewardship Award for outstanding Environmental work went to Holy Trinity High School and 2nd place went to Mary's Town Central High School. The Eco-Champ Award Winner for this year went to St. Catherine's Academy in Mount Carmel. Recognition for this award went to Larkhall Academy and Balbo Elementary. There was also an Essay Award given out for the best essay written and this award went to Luke Rose of Balbo Elementary. Congratulations to all of the schools! You all did a great job! I have to also congratulate the entire Ocean Net Committee. This conference was well put together and well thought through. It was great to attend and I am sure that a lot of work went it to it. I have to say it was well worth it!!!! I am on my way to that 10 point lifestyle and I will make sure that Justin knows that I will be using "swirly bulbs" from now on! Lol!

On Saturday October 13, my day started off at Envy Hair Studio. The ladies at Envy are always a great laugh when I go down and they always do a great job!! It was so fun there that the time went so quickly and I didn't realize how long I was there! Thanks ladies I loved my hair! After envy it was off to Sooters in Carbonear for a photo shoot. Sooters donated a photo shoot as one of my prizes. It was so much fun! We took a whole lot of great shots and I can't wait to see the pictures. Thank you so much!!!
That night it was off to the 35th annual Carbonear Fireman's Ball.

This function was very special to be for many reasons. Carbonear is my hometown and it is always great to do functions at home. Also in 2001 I was crowned Miss Carbonear 2001-2002 and the Carbonear Fireman's Ball was my first official function as Miss Carbonear. It was an amazing feeling to be able to go back after all these years. It was also special to me because this year my little sister, Laura, was crowned Miss Carbonear 2007-2008 and this was the first function that I was able to share with her. So the night started off with myself, Laura and Caitlin (Miss Tee Trinity-Conception 2007-2008) meeting and greeting many people. We had the

opportunity to meet with the Mayor of Carbonear, Sam Slade, the MP for the Avalon Riding, Fabian Manning, The President for the PC Party, John Babb, and many of the Carbonear Volunteer Firefighters. I was honored to be able to speak and to let the firefighters know just how proud I was to be from such a town with people like them giving up their time to be volunteer firefighters. When the dinner, the speeches and awards were given out we were able to get a huge group photo with the firefighters. It was such a wonderful night! Thank you so much to the Carbonear Volunteer Fire Department for inviting me to share in such a wonderful event!

On Sunday October 14th I traveled to Bay Roberts for the Trinity Conception Placentia Health Foundation Telethon. This was a very exciting event for me as it was for such a great cause. I went up to the Persona Building in Bay Roberts and at 1pm myself and Danielle Butt were on tv. We got to read pledges, sponsors and help to display cheques from different organizations. Later in the afternoon myself, Kristi Bourne (Miss Central Avalon Achievement) and Caitlin Noseworthy (Miss Teen Trinity-Conception) were also able to go on television and

speak. This year was also really special for the telethon because it was the first year that they were live on the internet. After that we were put on the phones to take pledges. I got to meet a whole lot of people at this event and it was so fun. I met Danielle Butt from NTV, Rod Stockley from Coast 101.1, and Glen Littlejohn the mayor of Bay Roberts. I also got to speak with some people that I had already previously met like Aiden Hibbs from CHVO, Fabian Manning, Tom Hedderson, Kathy Stacey from Persona and Don Coombs the mayor of Harbour Grace. The telethon was a great success

one who got to reveal the final total live on Persona television. I want to congratulate and they raised a lot of money. They raised over $316,000.00 and I was the luckytulate the organizing committee for a job well done. This year's telethon was truly amazing and it has definitely grown over the last few years! Congratulations on the success of this year and I hope that each year it gets bigger and better!!! I look forward to watching it grow and I know I will be back to volunteer for next year!
