Journal Entries....

Hey everyone! I have decided that for my first few blog entries I am just going to paste my journals from the website.....This way you are updated a bit on what I have done so far!! Enjoy!!! :)

September 25, 2007

On September 23, 2007, standing on the stage in the S.W. Moores Stadium, I was crowned Miss Newfoundland and Labrador 2007-2008. It was a very thrilling and wonderful experience for me and I am truly blessed for this to have happened to me. Although it was only a few day's ago I figured I would write my first journal entry and tell everyone about the pageant weekend.

On September 21st, I along with 8 other women walked into Hotel Harbour Grace to a weekend of friendly competition. It all started with the fitness test on Friday morning at PACE in Carbonear. Though challenging the staff made the fitness test as fun as possible! Friday night we took part in the meet and greet with the judges, sponsors and fall fair committee members. The Official Photographer, Tony from Lil' Angel Photography came by and brought Minnie and Mickey for us to get our photos done with. After that we were treated to rides at the fair from Thomas Amusements and the Trinity-Conception Fall Fair! It was so much fun and I truly enjoyed it.

Saturday morning started off slow with breakfast at the hotel and then it was time to get ready for the parade and the interviews. We had a great time at the parade and got to ride in some beautiful convertibles! After the parade it was time for the interviews and then off to the stadium for rehearsal. Saturday night brought the first onstage competition - Casual Wear and the Speeches. Although we were all nervous we still managed to have fun back stage with the Cee Bees! After the show we all went back to the hotel for a Pizza Party where we were treated to a slideshow about Aimee's year as Miss NL.

Sunday came pretty fast, the last day of the competition. It was kind of sad that the competition was coming to an end because it was so much fun hanging out with the girls. We started off the day with rehearsal at the stadium. We had a blast working on the opening number. After the rehearsal we went to have lunch with the mayor of Harbour Grace (Don Coombs), the Provincial gold medal girls soccer team, Tara Oram (NL's 2007 Canadian Idol) , and Inga Skya (Miss Universe Canada) at Kay's Restaurant in Harbour Grace. After lunch we went down to Rothsay house in Harbour Grace where we got a tour and took photos outside in their beautiful garden. Then it was off to Envy Hair Studio in Carbonear to get our hair done for the pageant. The ladies at Envy did an amazing job with all of the hair. You can see photos of it on their website at www.envyhairstudio.piczo.com. After our hair was done it was back to the hotel to get ourselves ready for the final night of competition. The Evening wear and Impromptu questions took place and during intermission we got to hang out with the Cee Bees and Tara Oram. It was great to meet Tara and get to sit down and speak with her. She is such a down to earth person and has such a great outlook on life. This year there was a new portion to the competition. From all of the contestants the top 3 was announced. Those three were asked to choose an impromptu question from an envelope and they were scored on their answer. The scores were added to the previous scores and from there that choose the placing of the top 3.

It was then time for the announcement of the Awards. They started with Miss Photogenic, which went to Jillian Power of St. Johns. Next was Miss Fitness, which was claimed by Leah Babstock of Eastport. Then it was time to announce Miss Friendship. This award was voted on by all of the contestants and Samantha Banton of the Goulds was announced as this years Miss Friendship. When those awards were given out it was time for the announcement of the placing of the top 3. Again the three of us were called to the front of the stage. Jillian Power of St. John's was announced as 2nd runner up, and it was down to myself and Natasha Hunt of St. Philips. Aiden Hibbs, the MC, proceeded to call Tara Oram up on stage so that she could sing for the winner's first walk and then it was time to announce the winner. My heart was up in my throat as he announced "And the new Miss Newfoundland and Labrador is.." it felt like forever before he said the name and in the end it was my name that was called as the 2007-2008 titleholder. So began the whirlwind of what was to come for the next year. I was ushered from an interview with NTV, to photos for the Compass, to an interview with Persona and then upstairs to speak with Linda Swain on Nightline. After that was finished I was brought into the upstairs room in the stadium for the after party. I spent the next two hours getting pictures taken with almost everyone there and speaking with as many people as I could. After that I was able to go back to the hotel with Aimee Power, Miss NL 2006, and take it all in. Thank you so much Aimee for all of the advice and pointers! I am sure that I will use them all this year! The very next morning I was able to sit down and have breakfast with Tara Oram and her family. It was so much fun and I can't wait to see them all again.

I am very excited to start my year as Miss Newfoundland and Labrador 2007-2008 and I promise to update you all soon on my appearances and what is going on during my year. Talk to you all soon!!!

Love Always,

Sabrina Jenkins, Miss Newfoundland and Labrador 2007 - 2008
